Description
BIC Prevaguard Media Clic #2 Mechanical Pencils contain an agent incorporated into the plastic that protects the pen itself by suppressing the growth of bacteria, algae, fungus, and mildew. These products protect the pens themselves and do not protect users or others from disease-causing bacteria, viruses, or germs. The agent should last the lifetime of the pen’s plastic unless the plastic is destroyed. Along with the agent on the pen, BIC Prevaguard Media Clic #2 mechanical pencils have a medium 0.7 mm point and deliver smooth writing perfect for notes, homework, standardized tests and completing your daily crossword puzzle.

I know they are not the most environmentally friendly since the case is made of plastic. They are comfortable to hold and to write with. The eraser on the pencil works well as well. Good disposable pencils that you don't need to worry about sharpening or refilling. For $22/pack, they cost about $2 each. This will last me a long time.I like these pencils because I tend to hold regular pencils too tightly and they leave marks on my fingers (not to mention make them sore). These pencils are easy to use and grip. They’re medium pt which is even better for me.People are rating these badly I believe because of the material they’re made from but it’s obvious when you order them. I’m not sure why anyone would go out of their way to order something they’re against but that’s just me. I like them for comfort.—————————————————————————————————Quality: Nice medium pencilsValue: Currently unavailable - so pice unknown.Use: Very easy to use.Recommend: Yes.I generally try to keep cheap pencils and pens all over the house so that one is available whenever or wherever I need it. These fit that bill. I put them in my woodworking workshop for marking layouts. The 0.7mm lead is a good thickness and the lead writes smoothly. The eraser works well when needed.I consider cheap pens and pencils to be disposable. The lead can be replaced from the tip, but I rarely try to do that. Easier to just get another pencil!I wasn't aware that BIC pens and pencils had a problem with mold growing on them until I saw that there have an additive to protect them from mold growth. I have some old Sears Craftsman screwdrivers whose handles grow mold so I know there is a potential problem. What I object to with these is that the description is written as if the additive is to protect the user! I think that is misleading and a gimmick to take advantage of Covid fears! All in all, they do what I expected them to doThis is a rather basic mechanical pencil. It is light-weight and doesn't feel as substantial as most of my other mechanical pencils + the clip feels cheap, but the tapered round barrel is a good size and feels comfortable in my hand. The 0.7 mm tip is supposed to be a medium tip, but I think it provides quite a fine line; the lead does write smoothly. There is a good sized eraser. The price seems okay for a pencil designed to be used for a short time and then discarded...As far as the Prevaguard feature, during this pandemic, of course everyone is concerned about microbes. But this feature really seems to be more of a marketing ploy than anything else -- what is the nature or efficacy of the presumed antimicrobial protection? It protects the pencil but not the user? If the presence of potentially harmful microbes are reduced on the writing instrument, wouldn't it then follow that chance of transmission to a new user (host) would then be lessened providing at least some level of indirect protection? Since there is no way to judge or rate the antimicrobial claims, I just ignored them for the sake of this review.I always go for a good Bic mechanical pencil because I love the way they write. This pack come with 12 count of 0.7 mm medium point pencil. Medium meaning not to thin not to thick. Very easy to hold and comes in blue and black. Eraser is white and does not leave uglymarks on your paper. The sides are smooth for a comfortable grip. Will be purchasing more of these in the future.I don't like mechanical pencils. But I love to use pencils at work (and home). I've been a traditional pencil person all this time and avoided mechanical pencils because of the fragility of the graphite, the nuisance of refilling, and the lightweight feel that goes against what I prefer in pencils. I write firmly and like the stability and heft of a wooden pencil. All that considered, this pencil from the always reliable Bic Company addresses all of these, some better than others.First, the graphite (lead, for your old schoolers). It writes well despite my attempts to write with some force. No breakage. No issues. The eraser on top erases well without smearing as well, a plus (and it didn't pop off, like most do). The heft isn't great (more like a lightweight pen - and designed similarly), it's not as thin and fragile feeling as others, just the same. Advancing the graphite is done with a clic (for which Bic is famous) and I have had no issues with the lead falling out, etc.On the whole, for an anti-mechanical pencil person, I've adopted these are pencils I use on a daily basis. That's a huge plus on the whole. If they've convinced me....you should very well like them. The BIC PrevaGuard Mechanical Pencils are standard #2 mechanical pencils. The lead is 0.7mm and writes smoothly. The description says “includes three 0.7 mm #2 graphite leads” but each pencil has ONE lead in it. I checked all of them. The pencils are not easily refillable. The eraser comes off as expected for a mechanical pencil, but the barrel of the pencil is closed. I took a picture, but in case it isn’t visible, you can’t stick a new lead into the back of the pencil. A new lead would have to be fed into the writing tip, which would be a pain. The PrevaGuard line “contains built in protection to suppress bacteria growth.” Notably, this agent protects only the body of the pencil -- it doesn’t protect the user. These pencils are very lightweight, and clearly designed to be disposable - they can't be taken apart to be unclogged, they can't be (easily) refilled, and even the clip is a bit too thin and soft.Despite the claims of "three leads" there is only one lead. You could, I suppose, carefully push a new one into the tip when that one is done, but there's no opening at the other end.I do like that there is a big eraser - that is often lacking in mechanical pencils.
